Module 2 | Social Dental Story: For Adults

There are many ways to use the modules. You can use the social dental stories only. These contain a story about what is going to happen and many of the sounds that you might hear. Each module also has a summary of the kit pieces that are used in the module. This is the “homework” that is best done at home so that you are ready for your appointment at the dental office. The virtual tour videos can be played over and over to help prepare the patient. There are 360 videos that let a patient see what it would look like if they were in the dental chair and other videos that let a patient see what it looks like to see another person in the chair. If you turn the 360 videos too far towards the edges, the picture can look funny and be distorted. The videos are useful for caregivers, family members and the patient themselves. Select what is right for you.

After you sit in the waiting room, you will be asked to come into the clinic. This is what a dental chair looks like. Dental chairs come in many colours. When a button is pushed, the chair can go up and down.

The dentist or dental hygienist will wear gloves. Gloves can come in many colours.

The dentist or dental hygienist will give you a special bib. This will protect your clothes. The dentist or dental hygienist might wear a mask that can hide their face but you can still hear them talk.

This is what the chair sounds like:

You will be asked to sit in the dental chair. The chair leans back as though you are lying down to rest with your head on a pillow. You will be asked to put your hands is on your tummy.

To protect your eyes from the light, you will be asked to wear glasses. The glasses can be clear or sunglasses. There is a light above the dental chair that is used to help the dentist or dental hygienist see. It is like a big flash light . First, the light will shine on your tummy, so you can see how it works! Sunglasses can protect your eyes from the light if you find it too bright.

Nice work 🙂
